It is better to prescribe oral steroids instead of increasing normal dosages of inhaled steroids

Inhaled steroids are usually indicated to cure persons with early asthma complications.
According to certain latest studies, one can enhance the typical dosage of inhaled corticosteroids by 8 times, but positive effects will be not enhanced in such situation. Ejaz Yousef, a physician that has been involved in these researches, states that if a physician observes that medical position of a person becomes worse, he/she may advise applying oral steroids instead of increasing the dose of inhaled corticosteroids. Enhancing the dosage of inhaled steroids is not without any side symptom. This factor leads to different side results. For example, the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis can be suppressed in such case.
Application of inhaled corticosteroids was considered to be alternative to administering oral medicines. It was in 1997. It was advised to indicate inhaled corticosteroids as alternatives of oral preparations that are useable for patients with asthma complications.
Later, several studies have manifested that intake of increased measures of inhaled corticosteroids regularly doesn’t increase positive effects.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a study which involved almost 200 kids of 2-17 years. These kids were cured with inhaled corticosteroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for treatment for a period of 12 days. Any kid who suffered from asthma complications was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the doctors.
No any kid that smoked, experienced signs of chronic asthma or lung pathology was implicated in the research.
Patients had to let know about their side consequences per telephone within 72 hours. Thus, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance for exercises. Each response was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant no any sigh; 4 meant the most enhanced severity level.
Only 4 kids out of 82 the kids that were given enhanced dosages of inhaled corticosteroids had to take systemic corticosteroids. Two2 of them were given doubled quantities; others 2 were applying the measure which was more enhanced by 8 times than a normal one.
According to the results of the research, effectiveness of the drugs, placebo effect, supervision of experts and treatment of persons during early stages of asthma complications were responsible for acquiring positive results.
This as well as other studies show that not every story about steroids is linked with abuse and usage of them as doping. Steroids are usable for many medical needs.
