Jeffrey George is the founder of a former famous clinic linked with hormone replacement therapy. The clinic was named “South Beach Rejuvenation”. Jeffrew George was indicted on charges of illegal distribution of anabolic steroids. As it was noted by investigators, he started tosell controlled substances through his clinic illegally. But in fact he was involved in illegal activity of pain clinics located in Florida. He distributed steroids via internet.
George and his twin brother Chris were leaders of a pain clinic activity. They got 40 million dollars due to illegal distribution of oxycodone and other analgesics during 2 years. This resulted in their several charges. Jeffrey George faced also a murder charge because a client of “South Beach Rejuvenation” had died due to overdosing.
Jeffrey George hid his illegal activity with the help of his clinic “South Beach Rejuvenation”. Anabolic steroids were advertising on the internet and in different magazines linked with fitness as a part of treatment conducted by the clinic.
It was not the first arrest of George because of steroids. He was charged with possession of anabolic steroids with intentions to distribute them in 2003. This person was sentenced to 8 months in prison. Then this man was involved in illegal sales of anabolic steroids, intending to bypass Florida’s laws that allowed clinics to prescribe and sell steroids legally. This person didn’t have any medical education. But he established the clinic “South Beach Rejuvenation” and employed some doctors that prescribed steroids without any fear. One of his employees was Daniel Hauser. He got 5, 000 dollars weekly for prescriptions of steroids for clients of George’s clinic.
Since steroids were sold per internet and customers were far from the clinic, they had to perform certain tests in clinics that were located near to them. Then they filled results of lab tests in the certain blanks and sent to the “South Beach Rejuvenation” per email. Hauser wrote them prescriptions.
Many sales consultants of ”South Beach Rejuvenation” applied anabolic steroids too. Furthermore, they purchased large amounts of steroids with prescriptions and distributed them on the side. They also recommended their clients how to take and administrate together different steroids in order to achieve better effects in bodybuilding and sports.
Chris, George’s brother, helped his friend, Chris Hutson, financially to open a clinic to sell steroids. Thus, “LA Health and Rejuvenation” was established.
Cynthia Cadet and Robert Meek were two physicians who were employed by Hutson to prescribe anabolic steroids. They received 1, 000 dollars per week.
The persons who opened two clinics mentioned above and physicians hired by them were accused in illegal distribution of anabolic steroids and prescriptions per internet.

It is necessary to notice that Jane Fonda was considered to be the sex symbol of 1960s. Recently she published a new book. The title is following: “Prime Time: Love, health, sex, fitness, friendship, spirit-making the most of all of your life”. You may guess that she writes what a person has to do in order to achieve healthy life, healthy sex and to have satisfaction the whole life. A chapter describes methods to enhance libido in older persons. But there is no any reference to steroids.
Jane Fonda noticed about side reactions of the anabolic steroid testosterone in the interview for “The Sunday Telegraph”. She told that she had stopped using this anabolic steroid because acnes had troubled her . Nevertheless, the actress recommends using testosterone to improve sex life.
It is known that the steroid testosterone is an excellent preparation for enhancement of sex drive. But adverse results of this drug may be quite severe. The Food and Drug Administration didn’t approve this product to increase sex drive in women. Several people believe that conservative attitudes to female sexuality disturbed the FDA from approval of this drug for female sex drive.

Essential changes in physique of actors in short time
Steroids are definitively applied by different actors. You can see essential changes in actors’ physique in short period of time. For example, a certain actor has played a role in a film, being quite thin, then, after short time he plays a role with enhanced muscle mass. How may actors enhance their muscle size in short time? The answer is self-evident. They take anabolic steroids. But actors deny that they administrate performance-enhancing drugs.
Jason Momoa in “Conan the Barbarian”, Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” and Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger” enhanced their muscles essentially to play needed roles. Undoubtedly, this factor led to questions about administration of steroids. But the actors refused to answer the questions linked with intake of medications that possess performance-enhancing effects.
As it is known, Jason Momoa enhanced his muscles by 30 pounds in order to play Conan. An actress, Rose McGowan, that also played in “Conan the Barabarian” noted that Momoa reached that results not because of steroids. Jason Momoa spoke that he desired to correspond to a Frank Frazzeta painting without intake of steroids. It would be ideally, according to this actor. But he noted that our world and life were not ideal. Momao claimed that he had trained hardly. Furthermore, he followed a strict diet. He consumed broccoli, peanut butter, yams and chicken breast continually.
As for Chris Hemsworth, he induced his muscle mass by 20 pounds in order to play Thor. The actor confirmed that he had eaten very much. The actor noted that he had eaten and he seemed as if he were busy with an important thing. Chris Hemsworth noticed that it had been very difficult to eat, when he was not hungry. Moreover, the actor had to eat large amounts of food. According to his words, it was very tiring.
It is interesting to mention that Hemsworth never lifted weights before playing his role in “Thor”. Couldn’t you find this factor unreal without administration of steroids? Nevertheless, the actor confirmed that he hadn’t used anabolic steroids.
Chris Evens also induced muscle mass essentially to be able to play Steve Rogers in the film “Captain America: The First Avenger”. He claimed that he had enhanced muscles because of trainings and a strict diet.

Some specialists claim that blood tests for HGH are ineffective
NFL players do not trust methods used by the WADA. Why did the distrust appear? Let try to understand the reason.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) decided to test players of the National Football League for HGH. Althogh the NFL Players’ Association has agreed, several skeptic arguments connected with the level of trustworthiness of blood test for HGH were expressed. This test is going to be just a part of the testing for anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
Some scientists who are not connected with the WADA activity directly don’t agree with the methods used by this agency. They justify the skepticism of the NFL players.
Matt Chaney, a main chronicler of administration of steroids in American football, confirms that players of the NFL are skeptic to the WADA anti-doping tests not without any reason. Skeptic attitude of the players is justified by Matt Chaney.
Don Catlin, the director of Anti-Doping Research, says that methods of the WADA for detection of HGH have to be transparent. The WADA uses the HGH isoform ratio test elaborated by Christian Strasburger.
It is important to note that according to several specialists, the method of this test doesn’t have scientific basis. It is not trustworthy. The Director of Anti-Doping Research notes that this test is not good for detection of HGH at all.
There is another test that can be applied by the WADA to identify sportspersons that administrate HGH. Sonksen elaborated a certain HGH testing method which is based on physiological biomarkers. But the WADA doesn’t applies the method of Sonksen to identify users of HGH.
According to Sonksen, workers of the WADA are not specialists in this area. That’s why they do not see the priority of one method over the other. But as it was proved by specialists, the HGH biomarker test is more useful than HGH isoform test.
However experts confirm about difference between these two tests, the WADA doesn’t intend to to use the other method.

To bulk up without trainings
Scientists intend to create alternative medications to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They claim that athletes may soon have another way to induce muscles. The Salk Institute has noticed that the efforts of the scientists have success. Late researches have displayed that inactivation of a genome regulator that is known as “NCoR1” causes increase of muscle size, energy and endurance. The leader of the studies conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, notices that this knowledge can lead to elaboration of some new medications which will benefit not only for sportsmen and bodybuilders that train but also for persons who are sedentary.
The scientists of the Salk Institute mention about individuals who can’t perform physical exercises because they have various health problems, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or mental factors which lead to sedentarism. The scientists try to elaborate certain specific medicines that could benefit for sedentary people so, as exercises benefit for healthy individuals. Now they experiment with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they can cause increase of muscles in sedentary people. But people that use anabolic steroids have to train and change their diets to reach better results.
If new medications which block NCoR1 are elaborated by scientists successfully, they will make essential changes in sedentary people. But can you imagine which positive effects will be caused in athletes?
But there is also an important difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. It is known that anabolic steroids lead to undesirable symptoms; some of them may be quite dangerous for health and even for life. Moreover, anabolic steroids can lead to severe unexpected results especially in women. But as for NCoR1 suppression, specialists are sure that preparations which will suppress this genome regulator will not lead to negative results.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression which has got the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It represents results of different experiments which enrolled mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass very much. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had got more induced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice that were given anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very valuable for further researches and conclusions.
It is possible to mention that elder persons and persons who suffer of muscle dystrophy will be soon involved in studies to check benefits of new potential drugs.

Collaboration of the UKAD with law enforcement agencies results in detection of steroid users in sports
Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t participate in competitions four years. The suspension was established by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was charged with trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher distributed more than 15 types of steroids. It was found out that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone belonged to the preparations which had been distributed by this celebrated person. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this man to 9 months in prison.
It is interesting to notice that the shot-putter from Britain never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you find this fact strange? How could it be? It is possible to suggest that methods applied by anti-doping agencies are not good enough to catch that participate in international sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD try to make sports free of cheating and intake of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These agencies also work together with law enforcement organizations in order to achieve the needed results.
The UKAD claimed that anti-doping officials would be allowed to supply information about names of sportsmen who took anabolic steroids.
This case showed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement benefits a lot. It proved that law enforcement organizations could help greatly to detect the sportspersons that apply anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is not possible to overvalue the role of these organizations in detection of cheaters in sports. Andy Parkinson, the manager of the UKAD, confirms that if law enforcement organizations collaborate with the UKAD, they will have success.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain situation linked with administration of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had taken part in the illegal activity led by some of his relatives. This resulted in Fletcher’s suspension from competitions till November 8, 2015.

Some sportsmen point out that Yannick Noah wrote a completely stupid article about steroids
Spanish athletes criticized the former tennis player from France, Yannick Noah. This man wrote an unbelievable article “La Potion Magique” which was published in the French newspaper “Le Monde”. This former athlete mentions in his work that Spanish athletes have several priorities and win competitions because they take anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. He claims that Spain has more loyal attitude to administration of steroids than France; that’s why athletes from Spain are more muscular and are successful in competitions.
Rafael Nadal, a celebrated Spanish sportsperson, points out that Yannick Noah wrote totally foolish statements and comments in his work. He is surprised how Noah’s work was allowed to be published in the newspaper. Rafael Nadalthat won 10 Grand Slam titles points out that Yannick Noah doesn’t write such thoughts which are worthy to be published. According to the athlete from Spain, articles of the former tennis player from France don’t deserve being made public.
David Ferrer, a famous tennis player from Spain, claims that Yannick Noah is an ignorant man. Ferrer doesn’t understand how a person like Noah that was a professional tennis player and knows the way sport works can say such things.
Tennis is not the only area of sports in which Spain won competitions. Basketball players from Spain won the 2011 FIBA European Championships. Alberto Contador, the Spanish cyclist, won the 2010 Tour de France and the 2011 Giro d’Italia.
Josep Guardiola, a Spanish football manager, point out that Yannick Noah should prove, if he confirms that Spanish athletes administrate steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. But if he can’t prove it, he should close his mouth.
French sportsmen agree with attitude of Spanish sportspersons to Yannick Noah. They criticize him too. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a celebrated tennis player from France, David Douillet, the Sports minister of France, and Frederic Moncassin, the director of the cycling Team Type 1 belong also to that persons who don’t support the statements of Noah.

A person in New Mexico used his own house to produce anabolic steroids
Ruben Jaramillo, a person in New Mexico, is charged with child abuse. Police raided his house and discovered that his house was a clandestine lab that had manufactured anabolic steroids. According to New Mexico laws, a person can be charged with child abuse, if he\she even only allows children to be there, where the chemical compounds or proper equipment applied for manufacture or keeping of these illegal medications are present.
When the Albuquerque Police Department’s Eastside Narcotics Team raided the house, they saw that there was an underground lab in it. Police oficcers found some kilograms of raw powder for production of steroids, such substances, as benzyl alcohol and sunflower oil, more than 150 vials of anabolic steroids. Certain vials were labeled “Testosterone Cypionate”. Moreover, police told that information linked with prices, quantities and types of steroids had been found too. Chemical compounds were in various rooms around the house, including the bedroom and the kitchen.
Ruben’s two daughters of 11 and 13 years old were at home, when police invaded the house.
It is known that New Mexico is not the only state where the manufacture of anabolic steroids can be defined as child abuse. At least 10 other states have the same laws. Such laws are established not without any reasons.
Chemical substances can be toxic. They may influence on children’s health too negatively. It is important also to know that there is a risk of fires and explosions of several chemical substances. Parents who produce anabolic steroids at home do not care of their children’s health. The children may face great dangers in such cases. How can children live in a methamphetamine lab and avoid dangers?
Parents that only use steroids differ from those who produce them, especially at home.
This is the first case in Albuquerque, when manufacture of anabolic steroids is treated as child abuse by prosecutors.

Which quotes from Laraque’s book related to his autobiography were published by the press?
Georges Laraque described his life in a book “The story of the NHL’s unlikeliest tough guy”. The author desired to tell about his biography to others. Georges Laraque noticed also about administration of anabolic steroids in the National Hockey League (NHL). These aspects about intake of steroids by the NHL’s players seemed to be too interesting. The Canadian press published just the quotes linked with this eternal subject. The rest of the book was ignored.
Georges Laraque claimed in an interview that he had never utilized performance-enhancing drugs. Furthermore, he said that he hadn’t mentioned any names of the athletes that had used steroids. The book is indeed about life of the author.
George Laraque notices about certain ways to determine whether a hockey player applies steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs or not. Here are 2 ways described by him:
1. A hockey player who gains more than 40 pounds in a short period of time must be administrating performance-enhancing drugs.
2. A hockey player that reduces his weight essentially in short period of time in order to correspond to the rules of the Winter Olympics must be taking steroids.
Undoubtedly, all athletes, including hockey players, know that they will be tested for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. That’s why they cease using the forbidden medicines certain time before the Olympics. It helps them to prevent risk of testing positive for these medicines.
But this is not the chief idea of the book. George Laraque desired to show that a child is required to put many efforts to become an excellent professional sportsperson in spite of racial intolerance and reviling. But the press doesn’t pay attention on this aspect. The press wants to publish stories related to intake of steroids by athletes.
George Laraque didn’t have a goal to name the hockey players that utilized steroids.
Undoubtedly, the media asks the author to mention the names of the NHL’s players that use steroids.

Positive results of an investigation related to steroids in Lebanon (Ohio)
An investigation that lasted 2 years detected and shut a huge lab linked with steroids. The investigation was led under name “Operation Bulk Up”. It was a well-organized activity of the certain authorities in Lebanon (Ohio).
As it was found out, a distributor of steroids distributed these medications to members of the Cardio Strength Center of the YMCA. So, when the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office received the information about it, the investigations started. The authority made a decision to send an officer that had to pretend being a member of the YMCA to the steroid dealer. Major John Burke, the leader of the Warren County Drug Task Force, was chosen for this goal.
Mike Caroll, the President and CEO of the YMCA, was the only individual at this association that was informed about the investigation. He could keep all things he knew about the plans of the Drug Task Force in secret. So, an immense organization connected with distribution of steroids was detected.
32 persons took part in the illegal activity related to distribution of steroids. They were charged with corrupt activities, supplying and possession of steroids. The investigation planned to detect only producers and distributors of steroids. However it didn’t focalize on people who purchased these preparations, the officers noted that professional sportsmen and bodybuilders belonged to the customers.
The proper authorities seized 600,000 dollars that were claimed to be a profit from distribution of steroids, 300, 000 dollars in cash and vehicles and 100 weapons.
Mike Caroll, the President and CEO of the YMCA told openly to media about the results of the investigation. He didn’t fear to notice that he had participated in this activity to detect the criminal organization. Caroll said that he was very glad to find out about the positive results.
It is important to notice that it was difficult to detect the illegal organization. Major Burke had to put efforts to buy steroids from a dealer. As a result of the investigation, an underground laboratory in Tennessee was detected. It manufactured steroids in injectable form. The raw was bought from China. The leaders of selling were Ronald Herbort and Matthew Geraci.
According to Major Burke, face-to-face interactions between distributors and clients were avoided in this organization. There was a specific organized locker system which gave possibility to avoid personal interactions.
Although this activity linked with manufacture and selling of steroids was well-organized, the authorities could detect it to shut the laboratory. This investigation is an example that confirms following statement: if the authority gives main priority to such operations, positive results may be reached.

The WADA doesn’t want to use the HGH biomarker test
Players of the NFL mistrust methods utilized by the WADA. Why did the distrust appear? Let try to find out the reason.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) made a decision to test players of the National Football League for HGH. However the NFL Players’ Association has agreed, some skeptic words linked with the level of trustworthiness of blood test for HGH were expressed. This test is going to be just a part of the testing for anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances.
Several specialists who are not related to the WADA activity directly are skeptic to the methods utilized by this agency. They justify the skepticism of the NFL players.
Matt Chaney, a main chronicler of intake of steroids in American football, confirms that the NFL players distrust the WADA anti-doping tests not without any reason. Skeptic attitude of the players is justified by Matt Chaney.
Don Catlin, the director of Anti-Doping Research, points out that methods of the WADA for detection of HGH must be transparent. The WADA uses the HGH isoform ratio test elaborated by Christian Strasburger.
It is necessary to mention that according to several specialists, the method of this test is not proved scientifically. It is not trustworthy. Catlin points out that this test is not good for detection of HGH at all.
There is another test which may be used by the WADA to catch sportspersons that administrate HGH. Sonksen elaborated a certain HGH testing method which is based on physiological biomarkers. But the WADA doesn’t applies the method of Sonksen to determine consumers of HGH.
According to Sonksen, workers of the WADA are not specialists in this area. That’s why they do not see the priority of one method over the other. But as it was proved scientifically, the HGH biomarker test is better than HGH isoform test.
Although experts confirm about difference between these two tests, the WADA doesn’t intend to to utilize the HGH biomarker test.

Conte sold steroids to five of the finalists.
Kelly White, the winner, got the banned drugs from Conte too. After she had tested positive for Modafinil, she forfeited her gold medals. Later Kelly White said that she had applied tetrahydrogestrinone and the blood booster EPO.

A popular sportswoman banned for administration of steroids
Kathy Jager, a well-known sportswoman, tested positive for anabolic steroids at the 2011 USA National Masters Outdoor Track And Field Championships in Berea. That’s why this athlete was banned from participation in competitions. Kathy Jager must not compete till the age of 70. This is the decision of the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
This woman utilized steroids because these preparations were prescribed by the doctor to stabilize her hormone balance. According to the rules of World Anti-Doping Agency, sportspersons can take steroids for medical purposes and take part in competitions, if they receive a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). But as it is known, Kathy Jager didn’t receive a TUE that could allow her to use these preparations without being forbidden from competitions.
It is necessary to notice that Kathy Jager doesn’t treat application of anabolic steroids seriously.
This athlete tested positive for methyltestosterone at the 1999 World Association of Veteran Athletes World Championships in Gateshead (Great Britain) after she had broken world records in running of 100 meters. That competition was between people that were from the age of 55 till 59. It was the first time she was banned for administration of banned preparations. Now it was her second time.
As it is known, this sportsperson took EstraTest HS that contained esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone in a tablet.
She noted that she had used EstraTest for medical needs. But the World Masters Association didn’t believe and didn’t allow her to take part in competitions.
This case caused numerous debates. Several people condemned her for intake of prohibited drugs, others defended her.
When this sportswoman was banned the first time, she took steroids in order to avoid menopausal troubles. The preparations were prescribed by her physician. Then she ceased administrating recommended medications and began to apply herbal preparations.
So, Kathy Jager can’t participate in competitions till the age of 70 years old. If she had received a TUE, she could compete. But nobody is sure whether the World Anti-Doping Agency will give her a TUE or not.
