Administration of anabolic steroids for testosterone replacement therapy by sportspersons is a controversial issue. There are numerous debates linked with it. It is known by anyone that steroids and several other related drugs are prohibited in many sports organizations. But if a person should administer these medicines under guidelines of his/her doctor for clinical needs, he/she should acquire a therapeutic use exemption. However it is permitted to use even anabolic steroids for therapeutic purposes, such athletes are often demonized and named “cheaters”. In fact, it is unfair.
What does Dana White, the UFC president, think about intake of steroids for testosterone replacement therapy? Does he demonize fighters that use steroids in order to enhance their reduced levels of testosterone? Dana White claims that any man with hypogonadism should take steroids, if these medicines are recommended by his doctor. Although it is fair, let note why several sportsmen suffer from reduced testosterone levels. It is proven scientifically that steroid abuse may cause suppression of natural testosterone production. Thus, some fighters and other athletes that have applied previously steroids for performance-enhancing effects may suffer from hypogonadism. Hence, their doctors recommend them administering some steroids in order to enhance their testosterone levels.
According to the UFC president, testosterone replacement therapy is legal for all men, including professional athletes. So, if any sportsperson suffers from hypogonadism, he should be allowed to administer steroids prescribed by his physician. He should get normal testosterone levels that characterize any healthy man of his age.
But the UFC president underlines that any fighter or another athlete that administers anabolic steroids and/or other banned medicines for athletic purposes must be suspended from competitions. It is needed to make difference between those that use steroids for clinical purposes and those that want to enhance muscle mass and strength with the help these medicines. Nobody is allowed to take anabolic steroids for athletic needs. It is forbidden in sports. Those that break anti-doping rules should be sanctioned. Sports must be drug-free.
It seems to be surprising that statements of Dana White differ evidentially from affirmations presented by anti-doping officers. As you know, words of certain anti-doping officers for steroid users are much harsher than those pronounced by the UFC president.
